You can track stores at which you are newly supplying products, so you can take actions to boost success in new locations such as organizing demos, running promotions, and ensuring your products are well stocked.
For most retailers and distributors, we recommend tracking new store distribution by downloading data from Crisp and analyzing it using an Excel template we created. If you are a UNFI customer, you can track new store distribution from the Retention dashboard. For more on this method, see the Tracking new UNFI distribution section of this article.
To track new distribution using Excel:
- Before you begin, download the New Store Distribution Excel Template spreadsheet.
-
Log in to Crisp, then, from the home screen, select Dashboards.
-
From the dashboard menu at the top left of the screen, in the Harmonized section, select either the Distributor Sales or Retailer Sales dashboard. In this case, we'll focus on distributor sales, but the process is the same for both.
-
Use the date filter to define what time period counts as new distribution (such as the most recent complete month, the current quarter, or the current year). In this case, we'll focus on the most recent month.
-
Refresh the dashboard to apply your filters, then in the Stores tile, right-click the store count number and select Show all # stores.
A window appears that provides the store count data. - Select the Download button at the top-right corner of the window.
- From the window that appears, choose the Excel Spreadsheet (Excel 2007 or later) format, then select the Download button.
Note: If you have a large number of rows, before you download the results, make sure you select Advanced data options, then in the Number of rows to include section, select All results. - Paste the Stores tile data you downloaded into the D | Selected Period Stores tab in the Excel template.
-
Download the data from the Sales Details table at the bottom of the screen:
-
Select the Tile actions menu at the top-right of the table, then select Download data.
-
From the window that appears, complete the same process as above to download the results to Excel.
-
-
Paste the Sales Details table data into the D | Selected Period Detail tab of the template spreadsheet.
-
Set the date filter to the time period you'd like to compare against and refresh the dashboard. In this case, we'll compare against the previous quarter to see which stores are new since then.
-
With the new date filter set, follow the same process to download the Stores tile data again, then paste it into the D | Compared Period Stores tab.
-
Select the Distributors - New Stores tab.
In Column J of this tab, the stores highlighted in yellow are the net new stores that you distributed to in the selected period that you were not distributing to in the comparison period.
You can now use this list to support your products in these new stores to help ensure their success and keep sales growing.
