This report helps you understand how markdowns impact your margins, to help you understand the best strategies to optimize your pricing, promotion, or supply chain. 

Summary page

This page provides a detailed view of markdown activity, including total markdown dollars, markdown rates, and markdown type comparisons. Use this report to identify top-contributing items and understand the nature of markdowns driving overall impact. This page contains the following visualizations:

Visualizations

  • Markdown Sales $ (chart): Displays the total markdown dollars by product for the selected time period.
  • Product sales rank (table): Displays your products ranked by total sales alongside markdown metrics for comparison.
  • Promotion discount markdown (chart) : Displays the promotional discount amount for the selected time period and the same period the prior year (usually related to weekly ads, temporary price cuts (TPCs) or free gift card promotions). This discount is taken at point of sale.
  • Competitor markdown dollars (chart): Displays the permanent price reduction related to competitor pricing for the selected time period and the same period the prior year. This markdown is taken on store inventory when the program goes into effect.
  • Unsaleable markdown dollars (chart): This chart displays the retail dollar amount (for the selected time period and the same period the prior year) of unsaleable merchandise marked out of stock at stores with the financial disposition of markdown, merchandise sold through rewrap and digital unsaleables (FC unsaleables, and mail in returns).
  • Clearance markdown dollars (chart): Displays the sum of sales (in dollars) for items with the status of salvage, markdown, or clearance for the selected time period and the same period the prior year.

Item Markdown page

This report page provides a more detailed table of markdown metrics by product including markdowns by type. This table references the following markdown types: 

  • Markdown A: The amount (or percentage) of markdowns taken on clearance items, which are permanently marked down. This markdown is taken on store inventory when the clearance program goes into effect.
  • Markdown B: The amount (or percentage) of markdowns classified as B (shrinkage/spoilage).
  • Markdown C: The amount (or percentage) of markdowns classified as C (competitive price matching).
  • Markdown D: The amount (or percentage) of markdowns classified as D (deal / discount / sale).
